Attending a bonsai convention doesn’t need to be difficult or intimidating. With the right resources on your side, attending demonstrations, workshops and lectures can be an enriching experience.

Getting Started

On June 22-26, 2022, Bonsai artists and MABA members are heading to Milwaukee, WI for the MABA/Milwaukee Convention! In part to see headlining artist François Jeker from France or any of the other eight artists. Creator of seven bonsai schools around the world, François Jeker is the author of six books devoted to this art. Published July 2019

Just getting started in bonsai, be sure to head to Milwaukee and join other enthusiasts, artist, and MABA members. Beginner friendly headlining artist Ted Matson from Southern California will help you get started. Published August 2019

Demonstrations/Exhibit
The Milwaukee Bonsai Society will be hosting an innovative, world class MABA exhibit. There will be written critiques by the headlining artists. Published February 2020
François Jeker has selected an American collected Spruce to demonstrate his world class expertise in carving deadwood. Ted Matson has prepared seven zelkovas from original cuttings to make a perfect forest planting. Mark Fields, Todd Schlafer and Jennifer Price have each has selected material that they selected for their workshops to make a great All Conifer Demo Wars. Published July 2020
Material/Workshops
One of the most enticing events of any bonsai convention should be the workshop and material opportunities. The guest artists have worked hard to provide quality material by selecting the trees for you to select and gain valuable insight from them. Published September 2019

MABA 202One is trying something new for a convention, instead of allowing any vendor that wanted to sell at the event, the convention committee has selected 8 Vendors specializing in covering all your bonsai needs and wants. We looked for vendors that offer high quality goods and have had a relationship with the Midwest Bonsai communities for years and mixed in a couple of new comers. Published June 2020

Challenges

We’ve also have several challenges that were difficult or demoralizing. However it shape the new look of the MABA/Milwaukee 2020 into its current MABA/Milwaukee 202One event. Here are the articles to help put context around our decisions

As the COVID-19 (novel coronavirus) outbreak continues to develop, our mission is to put people first. We look to our own values to create solutions that benefit our participants, vendors and artists. We want you to feel confident as you enjoy your time with MABA/Milwaukee 2020, and remain diligent in our commitment to providing a safe environment for all who visit. Published March 2020

The MABA Milwaukee Convention committee is currently developing a plan for rescheduling the event in 2021 with the same artists and vendors. The re-schedule date will be June 10 - 13, 2021. Published April 2020

To our amazement, all of the artists and vendors have been able to reorganize their schedules to be a part of our celebration. Even François has declined other invitations so as to share his time and talent with all of you next June, 2021 Published May 2020
