Houston has been interested in growing plants for most of his life. Over 15 years ago, he became interested in bonsai. Bonsai has been several steps beyond just growing plants, since bonsai trees require more attention and more creative thought. His bonsai collection includes at least one hundred bonsai in pots, and many more small trees growing in plastic nursery pots or in the ground. His trees differ from those of almost everyone else because he tends to collect as many rare and unusual species as he can find. Houston's trees are mostly grown from small seedlings or cuttings. Houston has been an instructor for our intermediate class in the past. He has written several articles for the newsletter and you can check out the July 2010 newsletter interview.
